Impact Lab and Data Gravity

We were recently asked to help facilitate the development of a new data-focused partnership between the Met Office and University of Exeter. Impact Lab is a new initiative which acknowledges the importance of Data Gravity, a term first coined by Dave McCrory.

In essence, Data Gravity means that data and services will be naturally pulled towards large data. Few organisations handle data on the scale of the Met Office and so Impact Lab is a means by which the Met Office and its partners can build new services and collaborations around this unique set of skills and resources.

In our role as co-founder and host of ODI Devon we’ll be playing a part in the long term development of Impact Lab. In the meantime, through facilitating the Lab’s first major gathering of stakeholders we were able to explore future service development and support the next stages of this exciting project.
